North of Ringmer Site

CBAS Ltd carried out an archaeological strip map and sample excavation to the North of Ringmer, in connection with the proposed construction of thirty new dwellings on the Site with associated car parking, landscaping and community woodland.

The main activity onsite related to a significant middle to late Bronze Age landscape complete with an possible enclosure, drove-way, three roundhouses, cremations, field systems and pits etc.

Earlier activity onsite included a notable Early Neolithic flint scatter and pit. This early activity was followed by a group of Middle Neolithic pits, one containing a small assemblage of Peterborough Ware pottery.

A final phase of activity is dated to the Late Iron Age or Roman periods and included a large ditch and group of pits.
